A hummingbird hunts for insects in the vineyard it helped to pollinate. It's almost time for the harvest, and soon the hummingbird will be on its way to warmer climates.

I painted the grapes in watercolor, to achieve a glowing quality, and the dark background in casein, to lend a velvety, matte effect that helps to highlight the glow of the backlit, ripe grapes. These grapes are destined to become wine, and then we can drink sweet light.

With our hot days and cool nights, Colorado has become quite a wine destination, with a number of fine vineyards, and if you are lucky, when visiting them, you may just see our friend the hummingbird, while sampling some delicious, high quality vino. Yum!
