The price is as matted and framed. Contact artist for photos of art as framed. A close-up of a gorgeous white gardenia. The white petals are painted in a traditional watercolor style, by leaving the white of the paper in the brightest places. For me, part of the challenge was painting white petals against a white background, for a delicate and feminine effect. The bloom is nestled in a luxurious nest of shiny green leaves and twisting buds. I painted this at the Denver Botanic Gardens in the Orangery, where the scent is a delight. I love these elegant flowers, and the contrast between the white blossoms and the dark shadows among the leaves. They make me think of finer times and gentler ways.
To me, making art is about the stopping of time, as are so many of the things I most love doing. I don't believe in time as we know it. When I become engaged in creating something, I no longer feel subject to time's constricting whims. That is why I am driven to create. I love the light touch and thrilling chemistry of watercolor painting, the bold strokes possible in pastel work, the patterns I can create with an ink drawing, and learning something new, always. Color thrills me. Texture delights. I hope with each work to retain the clarity of what I see, and bring that into view for others.
