Sniffing Out Some Magic
It's a misty evening and the moon is full. A red fox follows a scent across a lightly snow covered field in Colorado. This was my first time experimenting with Pearl Ex powdered pigments, which I used to add a striking copper glittery sheen to the mist, and just a bit to the foxes pelt, giving it a pleasingly magical quality on this full moon dusk.

The red fox is a species of animal with a wide range, and the admirable and enviable ability to adapt and survive in a variety of environments, both rural and increasingly urban. In this and many ways, foxes and humans are similar.
I have always been attracted to their playful demeanor, gorgeous red fur and strange resemblance to both cats and dogs. Any time I catch sight of a sleek fox or playful fox family I feel the delight of a child.

To me, making art is about the stopping of time, as are so many of the things I most love doing. I don't believe in time as we know it. When I become engaged in creating something, I no longer feel subject to time's constricting whims. That is why I am driven to create. I love the light touch and thrilling chemistry of watercolor painting, the bold strokes possible in pastel work, the patterns I can create with an ink drawing, and learning something new, always. Color thrills me. Texture delights. I hope with each work to retain the clarity of what I see, and bring that into view for others.
