Colorado weather has a way of changing all your plans and altering all your expectations. It keeps it interesting. I was really looking forward to getting out en plein air and painting all the spring blooms in my garden this year. First, the magnolia tree burst into blossom, about the same time as the first few daffodils and just after the crocus. Next a very cold snowstorm came, froze all my elegant white magnolia blossoms into hanging, crumpled brown things and stopped my flowering peach before any pink so much as peeked out the end of the buds. The daffodils are hanging their heads, the tulips are smashed down, but may still bloom. Colorado people are resilient, though, even if some of our flowers are not so much. To me, making art is about the stopping of time, as are so many of the things I most love doing. I don't believe in time as we know it. When I become engaged in creating something, I no longer feel subject to time's constricting whims. That is why I am driven to create. I love the light touch and thrilling chemistry of watercolor painting, the bold strokes possible in pastel work, the patterns I can create with an ink drawing, and learning something new, always. Color thrills me. Texture delights. I hope with each work to retain the clarity of what I see, and bring that into view for others.
