Description
Bear
*****
Bear is a square watercolor painting on mixed media canvas that depicts a sweet tempered bear resting in the sunshine among the grasses. If you look out my window at Studio Moonshadow, near Evergreen, Colorado, for long enough, you are certainly going to see some wildlife. You will have the opportunity to view deer, elk, squirrels, birds of many kinds, foxes, chipmunks, turkeys, maybe even a bobcat, mountain lion, or moose, if you are lucky. And if you go on looking, day after day, you are quite possibly going to see a bear.
*****
Bears can get a bad reputation, for being dangerous, rude or aggressive. They have been known to break into cars, garages and houses, in search of food. If you don't hope to wake up to a mess, it's a good idea not to leave your garbage cans outside overnight, in the mountains of Colorado. Really though, bears, most of the time, just want to live in peace. They can't help it if they're big and hungry.
*****
There is not much that can equal the excitement of a bear sighting, and if we give them ample space and respect, usually they will offer us the same.
*****
When depicting my bear, I used fun colors and lively brushtrokes to create a somewhat abstract quality to the painting, not worrying too much about details of the landscape. I just wanted to share the feeling of this peaceful bear, being a bear.
