Set Free is a beautiful and lovingly designed work of original art featuring a swirling, oceanic, nautilus shell themed pattern in shades of copper and purple on a rich warm toned abstract background of coral, orange, pink, violet, lavender and fuchsia. The flowing sense of waves, water and motion provide a peaceful and relaxed feeling, and the copper, violet and warm colors provide the feeling of a small and shining treasure. This miniature painting is presented on a vintage domino game piece that I have made into a magnet, a useful and functional work of art.

I have always loved the weight and feel of dominoes in my hand, and enjoy taking the opportunity to repurpose, or upcycle unused objects. Also, the gypsy in me is drawn to and entertained by the fortunetelling aspect of the dominoes. The backside of this one features the numbers 3 and 8, and has been painted in a coppery metallic leaf.

To me, making art is about the stopping of time, as are so many of the things I most love doing. I don't believe in time as we know it. When I become engaged in creating something, I no longer feel subject to time's constricting whims. That is why I am driven to create. I love the light touch and thrilling chemistry of watercolor painting, the bold strokes possible in pastel work, the patterns I can create with an ink drawing, and learning something new, always. Color thrills me. Texture delights. I hope with each work to retain the clarity of what I see, and bring that into view for others.
