Artist's Description
Every fall, these beautiful lavender and purple flowers pop up in infinite variety in the mountains and foothills of Colorado. Aster are one of my favorite flowers in my favorite season, autumnal gold complimenting the joyous burst. So sturdy and yet so delicate, they remind me that it is possible to be both soft and strong.

The richly-colored flowers and the abundance of Dieteria bigelovii and Dieteria canescens make them very conspicuous in late summer and fall. In most years both Dieteria species put on magnificent flower displays in foothill fields and along roadsides. The flowers are long-lasting, often into late October and even November.

To me, making art is about the stopping of time, as are so many of the things I most love doing. I don't believe in time as we know it. When I become engaged in creating something, I no longer feel subject to time's constricting whims. That is why I am driven to create. I love the light touch and thrilling chemistry of watercolor painting, the bold strokes possible in pastel work, the patterns I can create with an ink drawing, and learning something new, always. Color thrills me. Texture delights. I hope with each work to retain the clarity of what I see, and bring that into view for others.
