Radiant Orchard is a dreamy landscape done in misty shades of lilac, pink, lavender and yes, the trendy new Pantone color of the year: radiant orchid, along with more vivid reds and deep blues and violets.

The painting technique required a delicate balance between loose, wet, intuitive brushstrokes and careful control. I began creating this painting in a meditative state, acting on intuition and allowing the water to move naturally and colors to mix in interesting and not entirely predictable ways. Sometimes a painting tells me what it wants to be during the process of creation. In this case, I knew I wanted to experiment with mixing radiant orchid and colors that would be attractive with it, and to achieve a soft and enticing landscape effect with the subject being feminine flowering trees. To me, making art is about the stopping of time, as are so many of the things I most love doing. I don't believe in time as we know it. When I become engaged in creating something, I no longer feel subject to time's constricting whims. That is why I am driven to create. I love the light touch and thrilling chemistry of watercolor painting, the bold strokes possible in pastel work, the patterns I can create with an ink drawing, and learning something new, always. Color thrills me. Texture delights. I hope with each work to retain the clarity of what I see, and bring that into view for others.
