Description
Bring It Every
*****
Bring It Every is a boldly colorful, modern watercolor owl painting in which the raptor perches atop a pillar of words. The vibrant rainbow of colors and patterns suggest this painting as a perfect addition to a child's room, nursery, kitchen, bathroom or anywhere you can appreciate a light-hearted and whimsical element.

With pieces like this, I enjoy seeing how far I can push the outrageous colors and still have a recognizable and expressive creature. In this case, I also wanted to add an abstract element, by using India ink to place some of the words from an antique set of schoolchildren’s rubber stamps to create texture, interest and a perch for my owl to stand on. I really enjoyed the experiment and the outcome. I'll definitely try something like this again. The elongated, vertical format of this painting provides that it can fit in many unique spaces in your home, where a larger and especially, a wider, piece of art might not be suitable. Open floor plans may limit your options, but paintings shaped like this expand them, again.

Owls are among my favorite subjects, and truthfully I can't exactly say why. But they fascinate me with their mysterious appearance, nocturnal activity and long history as a symbol in word mythology and culture.
*****
Owls are a group of birds that belong to the order Strigiformes, constituting 200 extant bird of prey species. Most are solitary and nocturnal, with some exceptions (e.g., the Northern Hawk Owl). Owls hunt mostly small mammals, insects, and other birds, although a few species specialize in hunting fish. They are found in all regions of the Earth except Antarctica, most of Greenland and some remote islands. Though owls are typically solitary, the literary collective noun for a group of owls is a parliament. Owls are characterized by their small beaks and wide faces, and are divided into two families: the typical owls, Strigidae; and the barn-owls, Tytonidae.
