Aspens Abstract III
Aspens Abstract Series
*****
Living in the mountains of Colorado, I am lucky to have a small and beautiful stand of aspens directly outside my studio window. They are always there for inspiration, with changing seasons, weather and time of day bringing out different colors and qualities. Aspens Abstract I is a modern style semiabstract watercolor painting of a stand of aspen or birch trunks, famous for their white bark with all the customary dark eyes, scratches, lines, imperfections and shading. So often, we focus on the sparkling, shaking, color changing leaves of the aspen tree, but what about when you are inside the woods, staring into and around the mysterious looking and sometimes ghostly white trunks? I wanted to give a sense of that experience.

Aspens Abstract III is part of the Aspens Abstract Series, a set of paintings that show well alone or grouped together for more dramatic impact.
