Description
1917 Breeze
*****
Aspen trees on a slope, on a breezy spring day make my heart feel light.
*****
1917 Breeze is a mixed media landscape collage painting I created using torn pieces of a page from a damaged 1917 copy of Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court, paper marbling, watercolor and ink in shades of turquoise, blue, green, yellow and orange. I especially appreciate how the words from the book page contribute to the textural feel of bark on the trees.
*****
Experimenting with different mediums and approaches keeps my sense of creativity fresh and blooming. This is my first time using paper marbling in a completed painting, and I am very satisfied with the flowing quality of freedom it imparted to my otherwise carefully planned artwork. As an obsessive reader, it also pleased me to be able to upcycle parts of an otherwise ruined antique book, especially to create trees, since trees were used to create the paper for the book. This would make an exceptional and thoughtful gift for your favorite bibliophile.
