The soft and atmospheric quality was achieved by a careful balance of wild, wet intuitive painting, and careful, controlled placement of color, to emphasize the luscious, ripe shapes and the transparency of colors shining through these delicious treats.

Grapes are so overtly sensual, that when painting them, I can't help but think of Dionysus, he god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness and ecstasy in Greek mythology. His origins are uncertain, and his cults took many forms, possibly Thracian or Greek. SOme felt he arrived from Asia or Ethiopia, and being an outsider or foreigner may be an important aspect of his character as a liberator, representing...
To me, making art is about the stopping of time, as are so many of the things I most love doing. I don't believe in time as we know it. When I become engaged in creating something, I no longer feel subject to time's constricting whims. That is why I am driven to create. I love the light touch and thrilling chemistry of watercolor painting, the bold strokes possible in pastel work, the patterns I can create with an ink drawing, and learning something new, always. Color thrills me. Texture delights. I hope with each work to retain the clarity of what I see, and bring that into view for others.
