Description
Fresh Grapes
A wet and loosely painted bunch of colorful grapes on the vine, just dripping with juicy sweetness. These grapes are as satisfying to paint as they are to eat, and they would look perfect brightening up a space in your kitchen, wine cellar, restaurant, bistro or dining area.
*****
The soft and atmospheric quality was achieved by a careful balance of wild, wet intuitive painting, and careful, controlled placement of color, to emphasize the luscious, ripe shapes and the transparency of colors shining through these delicious treats.
*****
Grapes are so overtly sensual, that when painting them, I can't help but think of Dionysus, he god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness and ecstasy in Greek mythology. His origins are uncertain, and his cults took many forms, possibly Thracian or Greek. SOme felt he arrived from Asia or Ethiopia, and being an outsider or foreigner may be an important aspect of his character as a liberator, representing things, chaotic, uncontrolled, unexpected, dangerous, sensual and cot comprehensible through reason.

Fresh Grapes is currently priced and available as framed and matted. For photos of the original painting as framed, contact the artist directly. Or better yet, go see it in person at the incomparable St. Mark's Coffee House in Denver, Colorado, where it will be on display along with many of my other works, for the months of March and April 2014.

This aptly titled watercolor is as cool and refreshing as they come. The colors are appealing and bright and I love the way there seems to be light touching and peeking between the grapes. It's my nomination today for a feature in the All Fine Art Work group.
