Description
Buon Appetito
*****
This was a most delicious cup of malted hot chocolate, served outside on a rainy day at the Sunflower Cafe, but it could have been any one of a number of delicious hot beverages I have savored in my life. Cafe au lait, latte, cappuccino, machiatto, hot chocolate, drinking chocolate, sipping chocolate, cider, tea, coffee with cream......
*****
In Italy, Germany, Spain, Mexico, France, Austria, Czech Republic, California, Seattle, Colorado...
*****
On the patio, balcony, porch, in the kitchen, living room, dining room, cafe, restaurant, bistro...

Everything about this drink was enjoyable, as I partook after a short hike. The light was beautiful and I loved the bright orange cup and the glowing whipped cream, and my companionship. To me, a hot beverage served in a beautiful mug is a hand-warming, heart-warming and sometimes almost sacred experience, whether enjoyed in Europe, California, a favorite cafe or my own comfortable kitchen. Give me a good book, too, and I can't ask for more. Life is grand!

This painting would make an excellent present for your favorite foodie!

Sometimes I'm sufficiently drawn to a subject that painting it once simply won't be enough. There is plenty of satisfaction to be had from exploring how a different day, mood or technique can affect the interpretation and final results of a painting. In this case, the delightful hot beverage in the sexy orange, European cup just keeps calling me back for more. This larger and very red version of one of my favorite subjects was painted specifically for entry in the Redhanded Seven show to be held at T Gallery on Tennyson Street in Denver for the month of June, 2014. It has now officially been juried into the show! Paintings entered in this show are required to be at least 50% red, and square in format. Both requirements make for a real challenge, as not everything lends itself to a square setting, and even a little red is an intense, powerful and emotion inspiring or attention getting effect in a painting. I did not want to go for an obvious subject, such as roses and other flowers, bell peppers or tomatoes, strawberries and watermelons, or even a fiery sunset. I do love the velvety quality of red, and I enjoy the modern feeling a square format can give to a piece. Why not, I thought, combine the power and passionate warmth of red, with the comforting but exotic pleasure of a creamy mug of sipping chocolate?

Beautiful! Love the warm bright colors and the movement of the wet in wet paint. Reminds me of depression glass also from my grandmother.

Great painting of a memorable food and information to learn more about it. I'm a food adventurer myself and this is much appreciated.
