Description
A crow struts the sand along the San Diego bay searching for tasty treasures and sparkling objects washed up on the shore.
I have always loved crows and ravens; the shiny, iridescent layered colors of the feathers, dark silhouette, mischievous, playful nature, magical and otherworldly associations, myths and legends, goofy walk, soaring flight, strong beak, delightful personality.........
This summer I briefly fulfilled a dream of having a pet crow, as my family cared for an injured baby that could not get back to the parents. Fortunately, the crow, who we named Minelda, recovered and was able to rejoin her waiting family in the trees.
Prior to caring for Minelda, I had been working on a series of crow panitings, and this is one of several.
Bayside Strut depicts the cocky black bird walking, hopping and strutting along the sandy bay, just as I saw when visiting San Diego, surrounded by oceanic shades of blue, the green of the seaweed and the warm shades natural to a sandy shore.
This watercolor painting pleases the eye with a soft and misty aspect unique to the medium. Cool tones of blue and violet give a sense of the atmosphere and temperature, and the delicate natural light.
Crows have been the focus of scientific studies lately, because they are proving to be far more intelligent than humans previously suspected. They have complicated family and social systems, are able to use tools and plan, and also are one of those animals who enjoys playing.
If you enjoy viewing this watercolor painting, I hope you'll take a look at my other crows and ravens, as they are an all-time favorite subject of mine.
This original painting is priced as attractively matted and framed. Contact Beverley Harper Tinsley for photos of framed piece.

V/F Wonderfully done! I love watercolor and your work is exquisite:>) We have a family of crows that live nearby and are the best neighbors in the world.
